In the wild, Candy Cane Tetras inhabit slow-moving rivers and streams, where they feed on small insects and other invertebrates. In the aquarium, they are relatively easy to care for and can adapt to a range of water conditions. They are peaceful and social fish that do best in groups of at least six individuals.
Candy Cane Tetras are a visually striking species that can provide a pop of color in any aquarium. Their red and white stripes resemble the pattern of a candy cane, which is how they got their common name. They are active and playful fish that can be kept with other non-aggressive species in a community tank.
