Red Eye Tetra
The Red Eye tetra, also known as the Yellow-Blue Eye tetra, is a popular freshwater fish that is highly sought after by aquarists due to its stunning red eyes and peaceful temperament. Scientifically known as Moenkhausia sanctaefilomenae, this South American native fish can grow up to 2.5 inches in length and has a silver body with a distinctive black stripe running along its lateral line. Red Eye tetras are omnivores and will accept a variety of foods, including flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms. They are active and schooling fish and should be kept in groups of at least 6 individuals in a well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding spots. Regular water changes are essential to maintain good water quality and avoid sudden changes in water parameters. Red Eye tetras are peaceful and can be kept with other peaceful fish, making them an excellent addition to a community aquarium.
