Vampire Shrimp

Vampire shrimp, also known as giant fan shrimp or Atya gabonensis, are a fascinating and relatively large freshwater shrimp species in the aquarium hobby. They are highly valued for their unique appearance and behavior, which includes large fan-like appendages that they use to filter feed on microorganisms in the water column. Vampire shrimp are relatively large, and are generally kept in pairs or small groups in a heavily planted aquarium with a strong water current and high oxygenation. They are peaceful and non-aggressive towards other aquarium inhabitants, making them an excellent addition to a community tank. Vampire shrimp are omnivores and will eat a variety of foods, including algae, biofilm, and commercial shrimp pellets or flakes. Vampire shrimp are a unique and unusual species to keep, and are popular among experienced aquarists who are interested in observing fascinating and unusual aquatic creatures.
